Disingenuous uses text as an ‘elongated gesture’, sharing the same plane as the painterly lines. The text is conversational, representing rambling inner thoughts or casual speech, with a self deprecating undertone familiar within many of Jenny’s paintings. The artist is coming to terms with their own inner monologue and attempting to be more outspoken - an inherently un-british and un-working class act - But there is the relatable and shared experience of embarressment in doing so.
