Heat Rises

acrylic and sand on canvas with aluminium frame
182 x 119cm
(2023)

Heat Rises was an opportunity to focus on flatness and time, with a more minimal and considered use of line. The treatment of the canvas, although very textured up close, creates an overall flatness and velvety depth to the colours. The gestures resemble “quick and automatic” digital drawing, but in contrast the process was slow, painted with great care.
