Pretending II uses text as an gestural motif within the expressive composition. The text is conversational, representing rambling inner thoughts or casual speech, with a self deprecating undertone familiar within many of Jenny’s paintings.
Compared to many of the artists paintings, this painting was created intuitively - there was no plan or study created beforehand, and the painting was finished in one short sitting. This is a stark contrast to the usual ‘controlled’ methods, but gives the viewer an opportunity to see the initial automatic drawing which inspires the clean lines used in other works...
