Waint Do

Acrylic and sand on canvas
122 x 122cm
(2023)

Waint Do As Saints Do is a response to anti-martyrdom - getting on with life but recognising the struggles. Respect is paid to Yorkshire dialect, synonymous with the working class.
The treatment of the canvas, although very textured up close, creates an overall flatness and velvety depth to the colours. The gestures resemble “quick and automatic” digital drawing, but in contrast the process was slow, painted with great care.
