“Urban abstraction is a term I use to describe gestures, surfaces and compositions which are seen but not looked at. Street furniture, rubbish, vandalism, and depreciation are not often seen as beautiful, or having aesthetic merit. Having only recently become an inhabitant of a larger city, I have fresh eyes to its often disregarded blemishes. “What is familiar means what we are used to so that we no longer marvel at it”. I am an occupant of my city, and I am the occupier of it in my paintings.”
