Snag is a reaction to Beard’s previous hard-edged abstract paintings, post-monoline.
The gestures and consideration of space remain the same, but Beard wanted to create objects with weight, which use scale differently. This work invites the viewer to have a more intimate experience, and have a clear sense of scale in relation to themselves in the physical world. This is a conscious contrast to the flatness and apparent digital scale of Beard’s other bodies of work.
